Two soldiers were lightly wounded Friday night in a shooting attack on a West Bank road, close to the Beit Horon settlement.

The two received first aid treatment at the scene from Magen David Adom rescue personnel and were then taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.

One of the soldiers sustained wounds to his lower body, the Walla news site said, while the second suffered bruising but no gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred when soldiers from the Military Police and the Home Front Command went to inspect a suspicious vehicle that stopped at the checkpoint they were manning. An armed man inside the car pulled out a gun, opened fire and fled.

Security forces launched a search of the area in the aftermath of the attack, which took place on the central Route 443.

The attack came at around the same time as a volley of rockets was fired at southern Israel from the Gaza Strip. There were no injuries in the salvo, and no group made an immediate claim of responsibility.

Earlier Friday, an Israeli man was wounded in a stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem. He too was taken to Shaare Zedek, with moderate wounds to his back
