Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,  (Monday, 7 October 2019), at the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, attended a toast for the [Jewish] New Year with Prime Minister’s Office employees. Following is an excerpt from his remarks:

“The changes that we are making here are on behalf of all citizens of Israel, Jewish and non-Jewish alike. We are investing greatly in the non-Jewish sector, this is unprecedented – NIS 15 billion, in order to close gaps and provide infrastructure.

I call from here – inter alia – on the Arab public to cooperate with one basic infrastructure in which we are investing, which did not exist – police stations in Arab communities, enforcing the law in Arab communities.

Yesterday I sat with Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan and I spoke with Israel Police Acting Commissioner Motti Cohen. I told him: ‘Put another 800 police officers into this effort.’ I call on the Arab public to cooperate with the effort that the State of Israel is making to enforce law and order there, for our Arab residents, for all citizens of Israel – a nation of laws in all its parts.

The achievements are very great but so are the challenges. One does not contradict the other. In certain ways, Israel is a global power but we are also challenged in a way that no major power is challenged. There are still calls to annihilate us. These elements change over the generations and in this generation another country has arisen, which wants to be a major power and wipe us off the map. We are determined to defend ourselves however it may be necessary and we are doing this.

The challenges are great and the achievements are great. I know that there is only one way – to continue with the achievements and to face the challenges, and this way is the way of unity. Therefore, this year I wish the people of Israel unity. I wish that each and every one of you – and a unity government, very soon – is inscribed for a good year.”
